Before entering education, I spent ten-plus years involved in journalism, writing and public relations.
I remain a professional writer for new media technologies, staying connected to the "outside world" through various writing and strategy projects ... keeping my skills relevant. This background in writing, marketing, communications and publications is extremely helpful as a teacher - because I'm finding education to be my most challenging professional undertaking by far.
I also have experience as a supervisor at a substance abuse treatment facility; it's my hope that my enthusiasm, management and crisis experience, and business world acumen are helping me in this challenging world of education.
I am a strong advocate of new media, and frequently employ it in the classroom wherever possible. Students today are writing more than ever before; it's just these new mediums are often discounted or undervalued (in my opinion) by the educational system.
Rather than say a Facebook page isn't "legitimate," I'd rather say, "Great, now let's transfer those skills and that enthusiasm to the classroom and to your work."
I was married on August 14th, 2010; my better half is a customer service manager, and we currently live in Medina, Ohio with our powerful, beefy (future football player) two year-old son.
